Job Details

Daisy Cooper MP is looking for a Caseworker & Constituency Assistant to join her team. This important and exciting role will assist Daisy responding to casework issues and policy questions from constituents. The role is a fixed term contract until 31 March 2022 working in Daisy’s constituency office in St Albans. Flexible and part-time working requests are welcome.

Main duties:

Analyse patterns of enquiries and produce reports.
Assist constituents with casework issues.
Providing information, advice and support for individuals on a range of issues including immigration, housing, benefits, planning and other social and healthcare issues.
Liaising with government agencies, local authorities, third party organisations and others to resolve constituents’ problems.
Communicating with constituents clearly and sensitively.
Managing own caseload and progress of casework, ensuring cases are dealt with in a sensitive and timely manner.
Attending surgeries and other meetings if required to assist the Member in dealing with constituents’ issues.
Draft responses to policy questions on local and national issues from constituents.
Research local and national issues to support the MP’s work.
Retain records and information confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act.

Ability to learn and advise on issues concerning Housing, Welfare Benefits, Local Authority matters in a thoughtful manner.
Good knowledge of office based IT systems and administrative tasks.
Able to work individually and as part of a team.
Ability to gain awareness of the activities of an MP's office, policy and law.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within a sensitive and public facing role.
Sound ability to deal effectively, sensitively, with a wide range of people in person, by telephone and in writing (email and letter).
