Working For: Daisy Cooper MP and St Albans Liberal Democrats

Location: St Albans (and sometimes London)

Salary: £28,000 per annum (full time)

Contract length: 12 months initially


Job Details:

This is an exciting role for someone to support the campaigning activities of Daisy Cooper MP and St Albans Liberal Democrats.

St Albans District Council currently has a Liberal Democrat-led administration. The role is initially for 12 months, covering two important sets of local elections in 2021 and 2022.

Serving both the MP and the local party, the role will cover two important functions.  For the MP, the copy writer function will include responding to constituent emails, writing news articles and newsletters, assisting with speeches. For the local party, boosting social media and website engagement will include posting on social media, graphic design and video editing, maintaining a comms grid and growing supporter engagement through all digital channels. 

The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate an unusual mix of skills: namely, excellent copyrighting, project management, volunteer management and digital skills.

They will be expected to draft content for correspondence, campaigning leaflets, press releases and social media content. They will need a proven track record of being able to adapt their writing style for different people and different audiences.

They will also be an excellent project manager, ideally with relevant experience of managing a comms grids and coordinating a team of copywriting and digital comms volunteers.

They will also have the ability or willingness to learn how to acquire digital campaigning skills, such as website management, graphic design, video recording and editing etc.


Main duties

Research local and national issues.

Draft responses to policy questions on local and national issues.

Draft social media posts, website updates, e-newsletters and press releases on a wide range of issues. 

Creating and running a comms grid that supports campaigning objectives

Volunteer coordination

Edit videos, produce graphics and other digital content. 

Manage social media accounts and websites. 

Arrange meetings and events. 

Retain records and information confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act.

Other duties as required. 


Skills required

Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise a demanding workload to meet strict deadlines.

Excellent research skills. 

Project management

Volunteer management

Strong awareness and understanding of current political issues and campaigns. 

Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite or similar design software.  
Able to work independently and as part of a small team.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within a sensitive and public facing role.
